A coffee with Mirella - The Duke and the Fashion
BOWIE AND THE FASHION MAISONS
We can define Bowie's art as a mix of music, fashion, cinema and transgressive art, capable of representing an avant-garde in being always ahead of the times. The vibrancy of the colors worn by Bowie also represented an avant-garde in fashion. David Bowie's style and looks have been a source of inspiration for many designers. On the basis of the strangest, most colorful and ironic creations, some have created entire collections dedicated to the White Duke.
JEAN PAUL GAULTIER SPRING 2013 COLLECTION
First of all, Jean Paul Gaultier has included the White Duke in various fashion shows through fiery red "crested" hairstyles, "inflamed" make-up and sixties trousers: emblematic of all was the Parisian catwalk on which Jean Paul Gaultier presented the spring / summer 2013 collection perfectly dedicated to the character of Ziggy Stardust. The stylist dressed his models in the famous star patterned jumpsuit, he also added a Bowie style wig and very intense eye makeup.
MAKE UP JEAN PAUL GAULTIER SPRING / SUMMER 2011
In spring / summer 2011 Jean Paul Gaultier wanted a look very similar to that of Ziggy Stardust for his models. On the catwalk in Paris we saw rather prominent smokey eyes in shades of blue and abyss green framed between ginger-colored wigs.
ARMANI HAUTE COUTURE FALL / WINTER 2007
The king of Italian fashion Giorgio Armani, in his Haute Couture collection for the autumn / winter 2007 season, has included some garments characterized by cascades of diamonds. He also added fedora hats to the chic outfits of the women's line, just like the singer's beloved ones.
BALMAIN FALL / WINTER 2011-2012
Ziggy Stardust's colorful, deep-necked onesies (one of Bowie's nicknames) were a source of inspiration for Balmain who presented super-tight jumpsuit dresses in the women's collection, created for the 2011-2012 autumn / winter season. embellished with cascades of disco-style sequins, which form essential and geometric patterns.

The jumpsuits, jumpsuits-tights created by Raf Simons for the Dior haute couture collection presented for the spring / summer 2015 season, are inspired by those of David Bowie alias Ziggy Stardust.
MIU MIU FALL / WINTER 2012-2013
Life on Mars inspired Miuccia Prada, who presented a series of elegant men's suits in the Miu Miu fall / winter 2012-2013 collection. The feminine suit is made of a precious and refined silk, declined in various shades including dark green and midnight blue.
MAKE UP MIU MIU FALL / WINTER 2012-2013
Even Miu Miu's make-up was not left to chance. In the same autumn / winter 2012-2013 season, the stylist wanted a rather unexpected and decidedly carnival make-up for her models. An unconventional eye make-up, perfectly Bowie-style, has been devised on shades of intense white, sky blue and contour elements, as well as false eyelashes positioned in tufts.
GIVENCHY SPRING / SUMMER 2010 COLLECTION
Riccardo Tisci, at the head of the Givenchy maison, in 2010 proposes in his spring / summer collection a line of jackets characterized by a very specific graphic motif in shades of white and black. The thin stripes recall those of the delightful two-tone blazer with oversized lapels and pin made by David Bowie's friend, Freddie Burretti.
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN RESORT COLLECTION 2013
On the back of the cover of Bowie's "Hunky Dory" album, the singer appears with a rather simple outfit: a white shirt and high-waisted trousers and a rather light wide leg. Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen's designer for her Resort 2013 collection was inspired by this look and the result is the super chic suit.
Alexander McQueen honored The Duke with the creation of the coat (designed with Him) with the print of the English flag shown on the cover of the 1997 album "Earthling" album.
GUCCI FALL / WINTER 2006-2007
Frida Giannini with Gucci has often expressed her respect for David Bowie's style. Frida Gianni stated that she considers this artist a true source of inspiration. In the autumn / winter 2006-2007 season he presented a line of women's clothing with a markedly 70s touch, showing tracksuits but even more coordinated suits, with high-waisted and flared trousers, which he also combined with sunglasses. oversized shape sun and bug silhouette, perfectly recalling the mood of the White Duke. The Gucci maison, under the guidance of Frida Giannini, brought the iconic jacket with sequin shoulder pads, the golden suit and the bolero with fringes to the boutiques, reinterpreting these garments in a contemporary, modern key suitable for the comfort of street style.
MAKE UP GUCCI FALL / WINTER 2009-2010
For the fall / winter 2009-2010 season, Gucci imitates the make-up inspired by that of Rebel Rebel and Thin White Duke. The make-up was created by Pat McGrath, who wanted it to be particularly strong and intense on the eyes, strongly marking the line outwards, and brick red on the lips.
TOMMY HILFIGER, SPRING / SUMMER 2015 LINE
Patent-effect mini dress, mid-heel ankle boots covered in glitter and iconic stars, which have often accompanied David Bowie on stage, and a preppy-military style cape coat, to complete one of the most iconic looks that pay homage to the Duke's style White by Tommy Hilfiger, in his spring / summer 2015 collection.
Chanel
Chanel has honored the artist several times. The French house was inspired by Bowie in creating a model of golden loafers, echoing the famous ones with triple bottoms trodden by the singer.
BOWIE and THE GREAT FASHION JOURNALISTIC EDITORS
Vogue has repeatedly immortalized in its pages models made up with the emblematic lightning bolt on the face, including Kate Moss. Kate Moss: as a copy of David Bowie on the cover of "VOGUE - December 1, 2011
Scandalous model Kate Moss and Ziggy Stardust, the dramatic fictional character created by David Bowie in the 1970s. The cover of "VOGUE Paris" features Kate posing for the front page in a red wig and androgynous makeup, as a Ziggy impersonator. "VOGUE" stylists nailed the intention David Bowie pursued with her alter ego nearly 40 years ago After all, the great glam rocker was also concerned with blurring the lines between the sexes.
For Kate, the role should now be almost familiar: in 2003 she had already been seen in "VOGUE" as Ziggy Stardust, but at the time in the UK edition.
