A guide to the galaxy for young professionals: the tie knot

The tie: why wear it?

"The dress does not make the monk", goes the famous saying. And of course we all agree that appearance is not the only thing that matters, yet anyone who enters the business world knows how important the first impression is in this context. Form is often a courtesy that is reserved not only to oneself, but also to the workplace, to colleagues and superiors, and to the general image of the company. Especially in this context, therefore, the tie can make the difference between a neglected look and one of good taste. It is certainly not mandatory to be in order (at least, not in all contexts) and elegant, but if you want to give a good impression, the tie will help you. Even outside of work, the tie is the accessory with which you can enrich your look, perhaps choosing a particular and colorful one. So today we are going to see the two basic knots that every man of good taste should know.

Four in hand

The first knot we are going to see is the four in hand, a simple and basic knot. Its realization is fast, but the final result will always be not very symmetrical compared to other types of knots. This is why it is an informal look knot. You can wear it in combination with plaid jackets, blue trousers or even blue jeans. In general it is suitable for all those informal looks that go beyond the work context or special evening occasions.

Half Windsor

This type of knot is not the most formal of all, but if you are approaching the tie for the first time you can also use it for more formal occasions, work and special evenings without disfiguring. It is in fact a knot that remains triangular and defined, with a symmetry that is not perfect but already good. You can wear it with more formal looks, with a very dark aviation blue flannel dress, with almost black midnight blue stripes. You can use this node for an outing to the theater, a business appointment, an interview or company dinners.
