Charme: the elegant men surplus value
A way of getting a yes in response without asking any clear questions
It cannot be bought, it cannot be explained, it cannot be emulated: nevertheless we are all irremediably conquered by it. This definition does not exist in Italian, we borrow it from the French "charme"; however this word derives from the Latin carmen "song" and even more in ancient times "magic formula or spell".
Behind the word charm there is therefore the enchantment, the magic and the power of the spell. Charme means charm. It is used to define what a person can have, perhaps not beautiful but who possesses a set of behaviors, in the way of dressing, speaking, behaving, which make him a unique and intriguing person. It does not mean kindness and not even charm. One can be kind and charming but without charm. A simple word that contains an unacknowledged secret unattainable by many. It is an added value that is obviously independent of beauty and social status.
What is this surplus value?
This term is mostly used for women, but a man can also be very charming. "A woman full of charm" is the definition that a gentleman of other times can give. Currently it is a little used and outdated term, abandoned by young people who certainly do not use words of this type, but prefer to use words full of abbreviations and new terms to replace commonly used words.
The name has a concrete characteristic in it, even if it exists exclusively as an abstract concept. Because those with charm draw attention and involve people despite their own will. Have you ever wondered why that woman or man is so caught up in someone who apparently doesn't deserve them? It is charm. This surplus value is something more.
Charm is ingenious, owning it is an innate gift, but it is also true that with small tricks and refining our skills, we can improve our potential charm.
Attitudes and posture, real, spontaneous smiles. Look into the eyes of the people you speak to and measure out your voice. Be kind, easygoing and indulgent, less selfish. Take care of yourself and hygiene. Reading, researching, understanding what we like and what we hate, enhancing our strengths and believing in ourselves is fundamental. Take care of your look. Writing about tailoring, I can give some advice on how to communicate a message of elegance and style.
"The dress does not make the monk": is it really so?
The proverb says that "the dress does not make the monk", but in many cases it helps to convey an image of elegance and style. There is nothing worse than seeing a person wearing and flaunting clothes of important fashion houses with giant and prominent logos, thinking they are elegant and classy. The exact opposite is thus obtained, resulting ironic and rustic. Dressing well is not a matter of designer labels, it is more a matter of good taste and sobriety.
My advice is to carefully choose garments that fit us perfectly and jealously keep them in our wardrobe. Preferring natural fabrics such as wool, linen and cotton make the difference, not only for the wearer but also in the eyes of the beholder; let us orient ourselves more and more on quality than quantity. In jargon they are defined as "noble fibers" and it is certainly not a coincidence.
The charm given by tailored suits
A fine tailored suit ensures personality, communicates all elegance, conveys quality and refined originality, thus giving the charm we want to convey. We learn to compare and learn from friends, people who manage to improve us to increase our class and elegance. Surrounding ourselves with people who have these two characteristics can hone our qualities.
I would like to thank Lino Ieluzzi person with great charm, friend and arbiter elegantiarum, chosen by me as tutor. Cultured and refined, he stands out for his style and his way of being. I learn and refine my qualities by observing attitudes, listening to his knowledge and appreciating his precious advice.
A friendship that has made me better and that I want to talk about. Thanks Lino.
Albert Camus, with these few words best defines the sense of charm: "Charm: a way of obtaining a yes in response without having formulated any clear question".
