Semi-carded flannel: comfortably cult

Comfortable, soft and light, flannel is the versatile fabric par excellence, a passepartout in the wardrobe of the modern man.

The name derives from the french flannel, translation from the english flannel, a term derived in turn from the welsh gelane, a name given to a type of local wool. It is an iconic fabric of the male wardrobe, a symbol of virility, often used in the classic London smoky gray, wool flannel is available in different weights, especially for jackets and trousers, dresses and overcoats with a serious and rigorous look. The gray flannel trousers are the neutral base, on which the combinations of colors and fabrics are often built for the split suit.

In the cotton version it is widely used for the production of shirts, which between the eighties and nineties, thanks to the influence of musical artists such as Nirvana, were made the cult element of grunge culture.

Thanks to its versatility, flannel is the ideal fabric to give classicism and authoritativeness to the wearer. From the morning at the office to the business dinner, a flannel garment is ideal for not going unnoticed and maintaining the right rigor. But which technical feautures make this fabric an excellent ally? Among the qualities of the fabric stands out the resistance, the flannel is durable and does not wrinkle easily, indeed it softens over time. It is easy to take care of, in fact it does not require ironing or dry cleaning. By retaining the air it acts as a thermal insulator but in contact with the body it remains very light. After wearing the dress for a whole day, it is advisable to allow it time to rest on a hanger, preferably made of wood, with a sufficiently shaped shoulder. Before being placed in the wardrobe, each garment should be ventilated avoiding exposure to the sun, brushed with a natural fiber brush and possibly stained.

Bags of potpourri containing camphor or mothballs are excellent natural weapons against insects. We recommend using the dyeing shop only if strictly essential as due to the solvents used, each dry cleaning impoverishes the natural fibers, changing their characteristics and reducing the life of the suit. Attention also to do-it-yourself ironing: the fabrics could irreparably "shine". As far as washing is concerned, it is advisable to wash by hand or with a washing machine cycle at low temperatures, generally 30-40 ° C, but the exact degrees of washing may vary according to the constituent fabrics. If the flannel fabric is new and colored, we can do a first wash with the addition of a cap of distilled white vinegar, which will set the colors and slightly degrease the fabrics, but making sure not to start a too aggressive spin.
