Towards summer with patterned shirts

Ah, summer! Finally the season that we all love to madness has arrived, with its recurring aperitifs, dinners by the sea, new meetings, outings with friends and trips out of town.

With all these events in sight, a question arises ... how to find the perfect style for any occasion during the hottest season of the year?

The first thing you will need to do is undoubtedly empty your wardrobe and make room for what is the sovereign garment par excellence of the male outfit: the shirt. But I'll tell you more; if during the last few seasons you have been used to wearing the classic solid color shirt under your single-breasted trust, summer offers the opportunity for metropolitan dandies of all ages to show a strong and sophisticated look at the same time with patterned shirts !

Compared to the classic plain-colored sisters, these are undoubtedly the most difficult to match, but thanks to some small tricks you will be able to find the perfect mix of elegance and originality in this case too.

The most popular patterned shirts for summer 2021

Depending on everyone's tastes, tailors specializing in men's suits offer a wide choice of patterns to wear according to the occasion or your personality.

With the patterned shirts it is really possible to indulge yourself and choose between the most classic and used with stripes or checks and the most original micro-patterns, such as floral motifs. The good news is that for any model the rule is always and only one: never combine more than four different colors in your entire outfit. This rule also applies to the jacket, should you decide to wear it during cooler evenings or simply for more formal events.

This rule is based on the very famous chromatic circle, also known as Itten's circle, which since 1961 has become the most used tool for the correct analysis of the relationships between colors. To make it simple, according to this method, it is advisable to approach the colors close to each other sideways and play vertically with the different shades of the same color.

For black and white, on the other hand, the question is even simpler, because they can be combined with everything.

But let's get to the point, what are the tips for choosing the right patterned shirt for summer 2021?

• Let's start with the most popular fantasy of all: lines. For some time the striped pattern has replaced the classic solid color even during the days in the office. The luck of this pattern is that, if chosen correctly, it is easy to combine both an elegant suit and a more casual blazer. The advice for a sophisticated look is to choose thin and close lines, preferably blue-sky blue.

• We continue with the shirt that among all has always been associated with the most casual and sporty contexts but which thanks to practical advice, you can fit it into your style with elegance and sobriety: let's talk about checks. No to lumberjack shirts with huge printed checks, yes to small checks combined with a light-colored and solid-colored broken suit or a pair of light vintage jeans.

• We conclude with the most original micro-patterns: in this case always try to create a common thread in your entire outfit that recalls the color of the chosen pattern. Among the most popular patterns there are floral motifs and elegant dots.

How to match patterned shirt with tie

Generally it is easier to combine a solid color tie with a patterned shirt, paying attention to recall the tone and colors of the pattern chosen for the shirt.
However, if your intent is to play down an apparently formal look, you can also play with the patterns in the accessories.

The only two elements to consider in the case of the tie are the size and type of pattern.

Even in this case, however, there is no need to despair. The rules of style are many but often quite simple to remember: if you choose the same pattern for shirt and tie, for example stripes, try to opt for different sizes. For example, a shirt with thin, dense stripes is combined with a tie with thicker, spaced stripes.

On the other hand, if you choose different patterns, go for similar sizes, such as a plaid shirt and a tie with small polka dots. The exception in this case is only valid for very small reasons, which if repeated in the same dimensions, could annoy the eye and for this reason it is advisable to break with considerably different dimensions.

Finally, the most daring motifs and like the floral ones, go very well with solid color ties that recall the colors of the shirt.
